Why “irrelevant” continuing education has to stop!

Why “irrelevant” continuing education has to stop!

Hello my amazing friends in the beauty world!

How many continuing education classes have you been to in the last few years that you REALLY loved and took something back to the salon to advance your career? I hope you said ALL of them! However, I have a sneaking suspicion that you may not have had a great experience in every one of them, and maybe not in ANY of them.

The time you took out of your life to drive to the class and sit for 6 hours and get nothing out of it makes you feel like you wasted your hard earned money, and more importantly your valuable time. I tell you as a friend that this kind of  “continuing education” is a shame on our industry. Sometimes it seems as though they just take your money and deliver nothing in return, oh, except the CEU credit you HAVE to have of course.

Now I must say that there are some wonderful classes available and I’m certainly not saying that everyone out there is just collecting your money with no real value in return. These classes do however seem to be harder and harder to come by.

When you get ready to attend your next continuing education class, make sure that you are at least going to get real up-to-date material that will give you a BIG return on your investment of money and time.

Here are some questions to ask them before registering:

Could I see some testimonials from other attendees of your classes?

What techniques am I going to learn in this class?

What am I going to learn about self-improvement?

What are some past accomplishments of the instructor of the course?

Will you guarantee that I will love the class?

It’s hard to find the time to attend classes, and of course I believe online courses through the use of video is an amazing way to enter the classroom without having to get in your car and drive to attend.

Unfortunately it is still required in South Carolina that we drive to attend 6 out of 12 hours of training. Until that changes, stand firm and ask the hard questions of class providers. Make sure they aren’t simply taking your money to the bank and all you get is a piece of paper with “6 hours” written on it.

You deserve the best! I hope this article helps guide you in choosing the right provider for you.

Oh yes! Next year will be great! I will let everyone know when our classes are going to be held. I'm excited about what is coming in the near future!
