How much should you pay for your professional products?

In a world of many many expenses, how do we know what amount is too much when we are purchasing our chemicals and backbar products?

  • Is it 20%?  30%?  50%?
  • How can one really "tell" how much is too much?
  • Sometimes you just have to trust the advice of the higher ups in the business world!

I had a really good consultant/coach who helped me through all of this "number" stuff. I continue to seek counsel on issues such as budgeting, marketing, hiring, etc.

"Gem" Class

I took the boys to the mountains this past weekend and while we were there we did some gem mining. This is great fun for the children next time you find yourself in the mountains and looking for the next adventure. We found all sorts of types of gems and minerals. Tourmaline was one of the minerals we found. When the gemologists mentioned the name, I instantly thought, "blow dryers".

I lost SO many clients doing this...

Upfront and honest. That's all I needed to be and this wouldn't have happened. It's not that I was lying about anything. It's that I wasn't SAYING anything. When I would get a new client (and as you know, a new client usually needs THE WORKS!), I would spend a lot of time going over everything that I recommended we do to her hair. After making all of my recommendations and getting her all excited about the new look she was going to get, I would dive right in and get started. After perfecting the last piece of hair with the last mist of hairspray, the style was perfect! She was beautiful.

Stress Reduction Kit

I have to say that my week this week could have been very frustrating! I spent a lot of valuable time fine tuning haircuts that weren't just right, and a lot MORE time working on re-adjusting a clients hair extensions only to have her call back again for a "RE-readjustment". Very frustrating!- AND a CRAZY client who's daughter was unhappy with her color because it "wasn't what she expected". As it turned out, she expected the "racing stripe" highlights that we agreed she wasn't getting!- yep, fixed that too!-for FREE! Even though it truly was her fault.

Are you getting new clients this way?

Everyone ALWAYS looks to who they BELIEVE to be the most TRUSTED professional for advise in any particular industry. Take a moment to think: If you want to sell your house, what real estate agent comes to mind? If you want to buy jewelry, who would pop into your mind(even though they might be out of your price range). Lawyer, tax advisor, photographer or interior designer. It doesn't matter what industry it might be, there is a reason those professionals pop into your mind.

Did you know that the keratin treatment companies knew something (and still do-until now) that you didn't know? They understood the power of "BUNDLING" hair products with their services.
